Dokgo Ogong (Hangul: 독고오공), also known as Nathan in English Version, is one of the main characters in Tobot: Daedo's Heroes and the Tobot series. He was a former minor antagonist and piloted Zaritan to avenge his brother. In the end he chose good and helped the Tritan Trio with building Tobot W, and eventually became the pilot of him. Later earning the title as Quartan's leader because of his agreeableness and cooperation. His prominent feature is loving his little brother, Timmy.

Appearance[]

Outfit[]

In early seasons, Nathan wears an orange and green jumpsuit with a white shirt underneath and brown shoes. He has darker skin with dark brown hair. In later seasons, he instead wears an orange and white shirt with green overalls and brown shoes. His most prominent outfit piece is his red baseball cap, which he normally has turned backwards, but he turns it forwards when he pilots his Tobot. It remains even after the design change. Since the Season 19 spin-off, He wears a teal and orange flight suit accompanied by a white helmet following W's Mach upgrade.

Daedo's Heroes gives Nathan a drastic wardrobe redesign, keeping the flight suit and baseball cap but adding black fingerless gloves. His flight suit is now tan and purple and his hat now black, both of them having orange accents.

Personality[]

During the first episodes of Nathan and Timmy's appearance, Nathan was shown to care a lot about his brother, even lying to protect his feelings and tries to encourage him to be stronger by replicating a model of Titan. But, once Kory called him out on it, he continued lying just to encourage his brother; proving that he cares a lot about Timmy. During his entire façade of being a Tobot Pilot, it is revealed that he's a good actor and was able to convince a lot of people. It can be shown in several dialogues that Nathan is self-conscious of himself, lying, so he could impress Timmy, and so he could believe in him. He is extremely intelligent for his age, when he hacked into the Tobot's AI chips, nobody could figure out that it was him due to his anonymous mail. However, he slowly realised he didn't like causing mayhem and wanted the Tobots to use the power for good, showing that he's righteous. In the end, he solved the problems with the pilots and gave them the vaccine.

In later episodes, he had let go of his grudge and helped the pilots make a new Tobot in Gauges And Gross-Outs. It is shown that he relies on security, he informed Dolly not to look for coloured cars, but cars with strong metal plates, and in Shine-Ups & Show-Downs the others tried making their Tobot look good, while he checked W's tires, checked security, telling W he had a 'bad feeling'. He usually encourages others to do their best and is shown to be emotionally expressive. Nathan had a fear of heights, but he later overcame it and successfully could fly with W with no fear.

Relationships[]

Tobot W[]

Nathan and Tobot W have a fatherly-son relationship. During W's arc ("Fly Tobot"), Nathan was the only one who cared for W himself, and not that he'll be a future Tobot. The strength of Nathan's presence and care built Tobot W into the Tobot he is today. Tobot W gave reassurance to Nathan, and helped Nathan lose his fear of heights. In Season 2, during the team rivalry arc ("Go! Tobot"), where the Tobots were about to nearly get burnt into crisps, Tobot W ejected Nathan out of the cockpit as a way to protect him.

Timmy Dokgo[]

Unlike Ryan and Kory's relationship, their relationship differs from them. Nathan carries a huge responsibility for Timmy, especially during their first debut. Nathan had a tendency to lie to Timmy; which was later revealed because he wanted to cheer on Timmy before his surgery. They later resolved it later on in the season. Nathan and Timmy often support and encourage each other. In many scenes Nathan has an unwavering urge to protect Timmy. Before season 2, they were always close to each other.

During season 2 and 3, Nathan didn't have as much screen time with Timmy, always running out for errands and missions. Timmy gets often upset that Nathan has to leave for Tobot-related stuff. When Nathan and Timmy were playing hide and seek, and when Nathan left because of a mission, he later texted him, "I hate you brother." and began to resort to video games. When Timmy ate snacks and ramyeon before dinner, Nathan scolds him and demanded for his phone and Timmy, momentarily, runs away. Though, after this, Nathan has tried several times to bond with Timmy again, like going out to Daedo World (which Nathan had to cut short due to a mission and promised Timmy he'll be back.) Nathan has suggested that he should possibly quit being a pilot as Timmy doesn't get enough care.

In later episodes when Timmy gets kidnapped by your one and only, Nathan was panicking and frantic. In his usual pre-transformation phase, Nathan had a more worried look that differs from the other transformation phases. In a deleted scene, Nathan possibly broke down or had a panic attack when he spotted Timmy's hat and phone in the car Timmy got kidnapped in. In another deleted scene, they had a heartfelt reunion where Timmy cried and hugged Nathan, emphasising their love for each other. When all was resolved, their relationship was recovered and all is forgiven once they moved. (Then comes Daedo Heroes/Heroes of Daedo City)

Acnee[]

At first, Nathan was an enemy of the Tobots, working with Acnee to ruin the Tobots' reputation through the use of Zaritan, a model of Tobot Titan which was later turned into an actual Tobot. After realizing his brothers' love for the Tobots, he turned on Acnee and became a close friend of the pilots, even joining the Tobot team as the pilot of Tobot W.

Kory Char[]

At first, they seem to be enemies because Kory exposed his lie about Tobot Titan. But when they started to understand each other better, they became good friends. Though, Kory wasn't so fond of Nathan being Quartan's leader and pinning the blame on him when Neon left.

Ryan Char[]

They formed a team in Season 2 and they both like to do things that use their mind.

Dylan[]

Of course, every friendship started off rough, Nathan and Dylan weren't on good terms. Though, it later became resolved as well. Now, they are team-mates and usually help each other in dire situations. When Tobot Y and Tobot X were captured, they relied on each other heavily.

Etymology[]

Nathan's Korean name, Dokgo Ogong, originates from the character Sun Wukong in the classic Chinese novel, Journey to the West. Sun Wukong is a trickster hero, with playfulness and silly impulsivity that contrasts his great power and cunning. Korean names usually consist of a single-character surname and a two-character given name. This three-character name format originates from Korea's roots in China. Single-character given names and two-character surnames, while uncommon, do exist.

The surname Dokgo is an extremely rare surname that comes from a 6th century aristocratic family in northwest China. It is stylized as Dokgo, but Dugu is the surname in its original form. There is a small North Korean clan with this surname; many of them live near the Chinese-North Korean border. [1] Approximately 502 Koreans have this surname, which means 0.001% of the Korean ethnic population has this surname.[2]
